Simeon Jackson named Canadian player of the year

Hey, my pick won! Do I get a prize?

Seriously though, congratulations to our new golden boy, Simeon Jackson, for (rightly, in my mind) winning Canadian male player of the year in a polling of Canadian media and coaches. Dwayne DeRosario (who finished a very close second) would have also made a good choice, but you can’t ignore the season Jackson has had — tearing up League Two (and then, after helping his squad win promotion, League One) and getting the attention of various top-flight clubs in the process. Plus he made his initial splashes for the Canadian national team, and he’s now ours forever!

Jackson was surprised at winning, but did say it was “an honour”. I asked him about the rumours swirling about his potential movement up the ladder during the upcoming January transfer window, and while he said his focus is on helping Gillingham win games and pick up points, he did say “I do want to go on to play at the highest level.”

We want it too, Simeon. Go get ’em.

  1. The highest level? So, the World Cup? My god, he’s found a way to switch to England.
